About

Petra Salsjö

Petra Salsjö is a gifted and unique musical voice, quickly emerging as one of Australia’s most sought-after composers for film, television, dance and art installations.

Born in Sweden, where she commenced her musical journey (through the piano) at a very young age, Petra later attended the Victorian College of Arts in Australia, where she was awarded a Bachelor of Music (Performance) degree, and subsequently, the University of Melbourne where she embarked on Postgraduate studies in Composition.

Her initial foray into film composing came by way of THE TELEGRAM MAN, which garnered a BAFTA LA award for best short film, thus announcing her arrival as a screen composer of significance. From the outset, Petra's music exhibited distinguishing features that have become hallmarks of  her artistry, as evidenced in the twenty-five plus short, feature and documentary scores that followed The Telegram Man.

During the last decade, she has continued to contribute to Australia’s sonic landscape with scores for MIRO (2016), THE ART OF THE HEART (2017), IUVO (2019), BIGGER THAN ME (2021) and THE FLOOD (2020). She was the inaugural recipient of Screen Australia’s Credit Maker 2023 program resulting in a co-composing role on LOVE ME (Binge-2023), additional scoring on CRAZY FUN PARK (ABC-2023) supported by Electric Dreams studio.

As an accomplished pianist, she continues to perform recitals of her neo-classical repertoire. She is the creator of a collection of bespoke miniatures The Droplets. These works have been supported by the Hush Foundation.

In 2025, Petra was artist in residence in Sweden at the prestigious VICC - ICC, where she researched new compositional and performance techniques.
